Decarbonators

⚙️ Principle of Operation + Design & Applications

The process is based on desorption — the transfer of dissolved CO₂ from water into the gas phase.

Water enters the top of the unit and flows over packing material as a thin film. Air is supplied from below and strips the carbon dioxide.

Higher contact surface area increases removal efficiency.

The decarbonator is a vertical column filled with packing (Pall or Raschig rings) to enhance mass transfer.

Main components: • column vessel
• packing media
• water distribution system
• air supply system
• drainage and outlet

Applications: • hydrogen-cation exchange systems
• combined ion exchange processes
• chemical demineralization systems

🧱 Materials and Design

Equipment is manufactured from corrosion-resistant materials:

• carbon steel with anti-corrosion coating
• stainless steel
• polymer materials

Packing is made of ceramic or polymer materials.
