Screw Press (Sludge Dewatering)

🔄 Principle of Operation

Sludge is fed into a cylindrical unit with a rotating screw inside.

During operation: • sludge is gradually compressed
• pressure increases along the length of the press
• water is separated and discharged through the screen

At the outlet, a compacted sludge cake is formed, while the filtrate is removed separately.

🏗 Design

The screw press includes:

• screw (auger)
• cylindrical screen (perforated or wedge-wire)
• thickening and dewatering zones
• compression zone (adjustable pressure)
• drive unit (motor with gearbox)
• washing system

The design enables continuous operation and resistance to clogging.

📊 Technical Specifications and Applications

Main parameters:

• sludge dryness — 18–30% solids content
• capacity — depends on sludge type
• continuous operation
• low energy consumption
• automated control

Applications: • wastewater treatment plants
• industrial facilities
• food processing industry
• sludge and biomass treatment

👉 Key function — sludge volume reduction and preparation for disposal.
